There are alternatives but the issue of course is that the US giants have evolved ecologies of apps and services that whilst not perfect, offer more than the others and are in some cases extremely hard to not have. Europe needs to invest hard but we should also look to E. Asia for solutions.

As individuals, we can all do “our bit”. Move away with what you can, and just start small. Order direct from suppliers once you’ve done the searching and cut out Amazon, for example. Yes it’s a bit of a pain. But we can move the mountain together. Small pain now is far better than the big pain

Anybody with any concept of security should not be using US cloud services.

You don't know where the servers are located and have no control over it.
If the servers are overseas, they're outside of GDPR protections. And there is a possibility that hosting data overseas could be an unlawful export.
