The Bible has plenty of fucked things in it, but stuff like this makes me wonder if they're actually just reading "Cannibals All!" and calling it scripture instead
There is slavery in the Bible (only an idiot would think that makes slavery Good) but as I recall Biblical slavery, while obviously awful, is *less* awful than the slavery the US implemented: I don't remember it being hereditary, and the slaves had more rights, including as I recall a fixed term.
Bible: If a man beats his slave and the slave dies that day, he shall be punished. But if the slave lives a day or two and is able to rise and walk, the man shall not be punished for the slave is his property.
Then there's the biblical story of the concubine whose master was so abusive, she ran away and went home. The man went and got her. Then he locked her out where they stayed overnight. She was raped to death. He came out and yelled at her to get up. After realizing she was dead, he dismembered her...
It's also fascinating to me as an atheist with a deep interest in the Bible that all the consistent themes about kindness and generosity to immigrants and the poor ("the resident alien", "the widow and the orphan") are now anathema.

Ah, Christian Reconstructionism–my homeschooling curriculum included two of the key texts of the modern movement.
"Should we bring back stoning children who disrespect their parents too much" is an actual debated topic. You basically cannot stress their bloodlust enough.
They love tattoos, beards, smoking and IPAs. Many adopted the aesthetics of a mid 2000s Williamsburg hipster because they think it is the height of masculinity and ruggedness.
