the denigration and distortion of "identity politics" is anti-Black. Black queer women coined and defined the term just a few decades ago, yet it's constantly demonized and stripped of its true meaning and value.

In 1963 EP Thompson wrote his opus "The Making of the English Working Class" on how "working class" was an identity that had to be created and we are still confused about that basic history 62 years later
anyone with even the slightest familiarity with Black feminist theory and rhetoric know class is just as important as race and gender to us. we cannot separate those things!
Yep. And they do the same with any variation on it or well meaning attempt to "rebrand" it. Anything done with an underlying goal of centering anyone other than straight white men in the larger culture gets hacked at.

It’s like what we’re seeing with the word woke now, but on a broader scale. The same way woke was turned into a slur, and then defanged/reclaimed by non-black folks, identity politics was reduced to a buzzword and weaponized by some to deflect criticism.
Anything that shows signs of progress and potential improvement is weaponised and distorted until it can be used as a weapon to entrench the status quo
And the greatest ally in this process is the majority of mass media parroting the bullshit talking points twisting the original intent
I am guilty of being fed up with identity politics. I think it has become, despite its origins, a celebration of high profile people of color while the masses of people cannot afford housing, healthcare, and education and, US wars kill the poor and people of color abroad.
It’s so easily co-opted. Goldman Sachs is raping and pillaging? Put a black woman on the board. All better.
Then aggrieved white people say ‘oh you want to do identity politics? Hold my beer.’
Guess what; there are a LOT of white men, particularly in the swing states.
IP is a loser politically.

CLASS IS A PART OF IDENTITY POLITICS. the women who came up with identity politics are literally socialists!
class oppression is mentioned in the THIRD SENTENCE of the statement! https://www.blackpast.org/african-american-history/combahee-river-collective-statement-1977/

But in America there's white men which is totally normal and then there's identity politics which is everyone else.
