It's worse than in the workplace as the military cases go through military courts where most of the time the victim is drummed out and the rapist gets promoted.

When my spouse was a 1SG, had a WO forcibly kiss her and try to slide a hand up her skirt. She was shocked enough that she only told me. She finally spoke to a SARC as a BDE CSM, only for them to tell her it was “only” assault. There was no recourse. No one there to help her (cont)

Navigate anything other than “sorry”. The way the rules work is insane, and saddening that we cannot protect people at the top, let alone how does she help her Soldiers WHO DONT HAVE THE PROTECTION AT THE BOTTOM. It was eye opening into the way that we fail our juniors.

Brother, it's ALL the branches of service. I am an advocate for women veterans. I have heard nightmarish stories so bad, even Stephen King would keep his lights on at night. I have experienced my own nightmares while serving. We MUST do better all around. Peace!

Thanks. I served from 1965 to 1972, then 1990 to 2007 (mustang SF medical officer). Then to ASD Health Affairs for ~7 years. So I've seen the role of women change from support to warrior. As a Veteran senior leader, I fear the retreat.

I worked in Army mental health in the early 2000's. Many times, I was told about situations such as these. Maybe 20-30% of women service members said that they were harassed or assaulted. Fucking awful.

I was in ARNG to pay for school. My AIT instructor had me tutor struggling soldiers on breaks - I was happy to do it until he told me that it was because he liked to see my boobs in a T-shirt (classroom was hot). Back to BDU top. My students passed; I was top grad in class based on scores not boobs.

Summer training with my unit (a support battalion HQ, more officers than enlisted), a CPT got drunk and threatened to slit the throats of me and the only other female in unit because women should not be part of “his Army.” He was moved to another unit with no women. As far as I know, no punishment.

As a culture, those of us that are now 68/70 have been through this in the Corporate world. I wish I knew then what I know now and that all y'all younger than me were schooled on how to act when those behaviors happen.

I filed a claim with the VA for MST and they completed ignored it and listed it as “PTSD - personal trauma” on my claim with no rating. They added some other conditions to my claim and sent me to C&P exams and now I’m at 100%. But ignoring the MST claim is completely wrong.

A co workers daughter was raped by 3 of her shipmates. She went forward-After the investigations nothing happens to the 3 rapists- she was offered a transfer to the Army. She took a medical discharge due to PTSD and was awarded 30%

I am fortunate - when I reported 2 of the more egregious incidents - first as an ROTC cadet, and later as a civilian employee - I was taken seriously and the officers in question were disciplined. It will be better for female service members as more men speak up. Thank you for your courage!
