So I have a mentor who was at the Pentagon at the time who told me that the name Liberty was originally proposed by a gold star mother who asserted that was what her son fought for.

Which is a beautiful story. But it is a very abstract ideal that doesn't have a biography to hang a hat on.

I was really surprised there were no other names submitted to replace Braxton Bragg - so many are more deserving. Ft. Liberty, while better than a mediocre confederate, seemed the name was phoned in - no real effort was made.
