I don't think I've ever seen one singular move set a franchise back as much as this one set back the Cleveland Browns.

Sources: Browns QB Deshaun Watson ruptured his Achilles again, further testing showed, and he had another surgery on Thursday to repair it.

Less than 3 months after the original tear, it happened again. Watson faces a longer road back, and now he could miss all of 2025.

It’s crazy when you compare CLE to the other finalists in the DW4 sweepstakes. ATL and CAR were both close to landing him. Atlanta and Carolina both have hopeful qb situations and Cleveland has this albatross around their neck in Watsons contract. He really is sinking that franchise

For sure. And its not even close in terms of damage caused.

Not only was it hugely expensive, both in draft picks and salary cap, but it caused the team to go with a bum for years.
This disaster aged out the rest of the team.
Chances are they can't draft a good QB next year either.

At this point, Watson's playing career is most likely done. Browns will release him in 2026 and there's no way a team will pick him up, unless as an emergency QB3.

He might be QB3 quality, but that's what rookie QBs are for. If I'm a GM, I'm taking a flier on a late round or undrafted rookie in hopes of finding the next Kurt Warner or Brock Purdy.
