I recall watching videos of when it was burning and the many Parisians who gathered and sang and wept. It’s almost a miracle that France found skilled masons and stone carvers who could reconstruct this beautiful building.

It may come as a shock that electrical/construction work and thousand-year-old (extremely dry) roof timbers coming together can result in fires. And cathedrals burnt even in the Middle Ages, even while they were being constructed. Nothing nefarious required.
