1/ Last night, in my newsletter Civil Discourse, I wrote the following. This morning, Joe Biden declared it the law of the land. What does that actually mean, though?

I was so sad and disappointed when it failed to pass originally and am delighted to be surprised by this last-minute gift.

To whom does Archivist report? Who DOES have authority to force publication?
Yet again, discovering our govt is run not by laws but by norms.
Useless norms.
If Archivist refuses to publish even tho ERA meets ratification standard, that’s the end?
Just stating his lame-duck opinion doesn't seem like an action with any effect.
Trump will for sure try to squelch this, so put more teeth in it. Make him overtly reverse an eo and try to force "unpublishing."
Are you as worried as I am?
We know why...
Is this something like the plaque honoring the Jan 6 police officers that can simply go into an oubliette and never see the light of day?
Story from May 28, 2024. [Still hasn't been installed.]

(To quote Joe when Obama signed the ACA into law - "This is a big fucking deal.") :o)
“Archivist has no constitutional or legal role in the amending process. She does NOT get to decide what is or is not in the U.S. Constitution. Her boss (POTUS ) has spoken for his Administration. That's it.The ERA is in! This is a victory.” @whitehouse.senate.gov
Where is anything to hold him accountable?

But do you think this does mean the ERA will become law?
We need to act like it’s done and let the naysayers step up to fight it.

Work for lawyers.
Incidentally, the current Archivist was not in office when Mar-A-Lago became an issue.
the archivist is already ignoring DOJ, which is crazy to me.

I'd like some insight as to why it wasn't done in the last four years.
Where to start?
This case does however leave a big 'why not earlier' aftertaste.
This is HUGE! No doubt about it.
Looking forward to reading it.
It took long enough. I was marching for this in the 1970s. (Oops, did I accidentally reveal my age?)
BTW, I'm still reading Strongmen, by Ruth Ben-Ghiat. Yes, I'm on the ledge.
😕💔
Ask that they do their duty and publish the ERA now.
It's getting to the point that generally most anyone other than white Christian males are humans w/ the ability to express empathy, compassion, etc. White Christian males seem to have lost those abilities
With so many legal scholars not agreeing, this is going to go to the SC so they can say - yeah - we don't like women.
CERTIFIED: 28th Am- ERA- “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of sex" Link➔ https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/17/politics/joe-biden-equal-right-amendment/index.html
I'd love to be wrong🤞
I'd rather see this fought in the courts than collecting dust in a drawer.
I see little hope in getting a new amendment to the floor in both houses or 2/3 votes to send it back to the sates.
Remember for the last nine years FFOTUS has been making shit up and half the country believes him.
