so, in general AI safety is important.
Generative AI safety conversations, in my mind, are used as a smokescreen to juice up how significant gen. AI is. Notice that they are mostly NOT focused on things like scams, spam, copyright theft, environmental damage, or anything else actually happening

It was honestly surprising how chill everyone seemed about Altman's repeated deflections on safety. Over and over he said, "well I assume smart people will figure it out." Oh also, governments will have to work together lol www.cnn.com/2024/12/05/b...

AI: stop using AI
Hm, can’t be right, let’s re-fuckulate it
Focusing on "now problems" like bias & annoyances will increase extinction risk because we're distracted from reducing it.
If we might be dead in 10 years (killer AI or malevolent AI helpers), let's work on that problem first.

Meanwhile it’s a thief machine that hallucinates & has run out of training data
"This might lead to Skynet" = Damn, this AI has the juice, we better give this dude tons of money
"This leads to Hunter DeButts" = what a fucking joke, why did we turn over the world economy to the autocorrect feature on our phones
Yeah, AI has a few issues atm that need work.
