A few years ago I watched a BR video of Colin McBean doing a live set using only an MPC2000XL & a crap Mackie live desk with built-in FX. And it was amazing. Owned a MPC2KXL for about 10 years, had the multi outs and EB16 FX, then traded up for an MPC-2500 with the XLCD screen upgrade & JJOS. From looping with the audio tracks to all the QOL improvements, felt like a massive improvement without losing 2000's vibe. Clock on JJOS can be lil sketch, though.

I had JJOS (the paid version) on the MPC1000 & it was indeed great. Especially as AkaiOS was awful on those mid-00s models. Always wanted a 2500 but I LOVED the feel of the 2KXL. The jog wheel, the layout, the pads, the solid build. Had it with CF drive, 8-outs, FX board. Sold it. I’m a twat

I currently have an MPC Live which I got pretty cheap. The OS is absolutely feature packed but I’ve no use for a multitimbral sampler that has only 1 stereo output. The blight of modern samplers & drum machines

Just realised I meant MPC One. The Live does at least have 8 outputs. But I went for the One because it actually has buttons which negate the need to rely on the touchscreen, and the Live doesn’t

the mpc3k is the daddy though. always wanted one. had a couple of 2kxls bitd, found them really easy/quick to work with… certainly compared to the octatrack.

I think the new ones (one / live 2) can connect to any class compliant usb audio interface . Reckon that would give you whatever outs u might need . U could get a soundcraft MTK 12 desk and a couple of pedals and boom

Yeah I looked at the new MPCs but it just felt like a computer with a touch screen, pads, knobs. It's like, I already have Live, Bitwig, etc. - this just feels redundant. The Polyend devices though, I love em when the firmware is stable. The Tracker+ & Play+ - genuinely inspiring.
