my professional engineering recommendations:
* make the hull out of unidirectional carbon fibre
* design the sub to be an unusual shape
* don't worry about the depth rating of the components
Oh wonderful, please, recreate Bioshock. Nothing terrible will happen to the ultra wealthy if they all just put themselves underwater away from the rest of us... Rapture was a true rags to riches success story!
A whole bunch of people used to getting exactly what they want all the time at the expense of people "below them", being forced into tight space 250m underwater… I’m sure that’ll go over well.
If I had the money to throw at a submarine I'd just buy whatever nuclear subs are being phased out by the Navy and refurbish it for luxury. I think the next batch to be retired are the ones my grandpa worked on at Electric Boat Company in the 60s, so I think I would be able to trust it.
I could see that, but for me the point would be decommissioning the thing so it no longer feels military; maybe turn the torpedo and missile storage into more living space. Plus, it's nuclear so I'd only ever need to surface for provisions and food.
Why not? Most nuclear power plants are owned by private companies; just own one of those companies and the govt would probably be willing to sell it with the reactor intact as you already own reactors anyway.
Well...
1. It's a military design & is secret.
2. The reactors are small & can generate much power for several decades. You know how? Highly enriched uranium, at least 20%, but the newest US subs apparently use 93%! U-235.🤯 That's as high as what goes in bombs. Bombs are possible above 20%

I work on aircraft crashes. You are not wrong. I see plenty of cases of lethal arrogance and fatal ignoring of people who know what they're talking about, but are not rich.
I love that they display it with icebergs. It's like they heard that military subs can smash through ice so they figure it's a good idea for their sub too. If it could really go down 250m (doubtful) it'd have to be pretty robust, but I predict disaster if buyers mess with million ton ice cubes.
From the website they offer Floating Island fortresses a la Bond villain and various models of luxury submersible/submarines. All very Bond/Thunderbirds. Lots of CGI, but couldnt see where they plan to build all this. Not in Austria obviously as its landlocked these days.
All those windows and doors… they presumably think the reason that multi-billion-dollar-per-unit SSNs and SSBNs don’t have have them, but instead are pressure vessels with minimal openings and hulls a metre thick, is due to a lack of imagination.
As a former submariner let me say that these things are made for private ownership. Absolutely no better place to cut corners on maintenance costs than on a submarine.
If they were talking about a submersible yacht that went 50 feet under, I could see luxury. But if they really made it to go 250m down, I don't see it.
Also, knowing how much military subs this size cost & that this concept would be built in even lower numbers I see little risk of this being made.
Personally if was rich enough to own a super yacht, I would have gone with a super submarine in the first place :) live out my 20,000 leagues under the sea fantasies

Remember Jeff — your billions will absolutely shield you from any sort of consequences including those coming from the laws of physics
then the ultra rich died in a private sub trying to visit the Titanic
now the ultra rich are getting on a private sub that IS the Titanic!
if there were i think we'd have heard!

Cut a few corners?
Bypass some red tape?
Skip a few inspections?
I think we can manage it.
While up above the waves my doomsday squad ignites the atmosphere 🎵
Is that too much to ask?!
All the fish you can eat. C'mon, whaddya say?
Signed, the 99%.
You want to use Hedgehog so you can keep the submarine on your sonar.
