Do you know who else should pick up the tab? Trump, the GOP and all the Trump voters. After withdrawing twice from the Paris Agreement, while fossil fuel companies told him not to, the argument could be made that Trump is more culpable for our climate crisis than the fossil fuel companies.

All kinds of fires, no matter how large they are, could be quickly, safely and cheaply put down, by applying the MOH-Gas-based IMPLOSION Technology, similar to the so called "Thermobaric Weapon". A missile, filled with liquefied MOH-Gas, launched into the fire's heart, sucking up all the Oxygen.

Why do you need that? Because fossil fuel companies have made you need it. You could have had an affordable EV if they did not obstruct it, you could have solar panels and free energy.

i have solar panels and they don't produce anywhere near enough energy to power my house even without electric heat. I test drove some EVs and while they're affordable, am waiting to see how the technology, especially charging, shakes out before buying one

The fossil fuel energy is largely at fault. But it would also have been nice if one of the most water intensive crops (almonds) weren't being grown in this desert. And if the residents hadn't planted so many gasoline trees (eucalyptus) over the past few decades. It's a trifecta of bad decisions.

I'm not sure LA would be first in line if we were to start holding the fossil fuel industry responsible for the LA fires.

We, western consumers are also largely responsible for driving demand for fossil fuel.

We will NEVER cut the energy need. We can only make changes to the sources.

Alt. 1: Seize the company. The production infrastructure has any value only if it is producing hydrocarbons.
Alt. 2: Court judgment for massive damages. Source of money are the future cashflows from hydrocarbon production.

Alt. 3: Claim damages from shareholders and claw back their profits. ExxonMobil stock is held directly or indirectly via index funds, pension funds etc. so widely that basically every American would be liable. It would be simpler just to raise taxes.

Totally agree, but wonder if there's any mechanism by which past profit can be clawed back from O&G company owners and investors to cover these costs. Otherwise O&G companies would likely raise prices to cover fines, passing the costs on to all of us via energy bills.

There are upsides to high fossil energy costs - reducing demand and emissions, notably - but also downsides such as increased energy burden for disadvantaged people trapped in fossil-fuel dependence (e.g. by landlords who won't upgrade fossil appliances) and perhaps political backlash. 🤷‍♂️

Isn’t there quite a number of entities who should take some of the blame? We who look from afar see homes built in steep cliffs, some w only a single access/egress point. City regs, house construction, on & on.
