Those Robotic hamburger, pizza, ramen machines that were being hyped years ago with prototypes kind of just became old news. Lots of basic frying tasks could be pretty automated which would be safer for the employees in food service, and cheaper in the long run, but no lets create pop songs instead.

There was no real cost savings in having them; they would still need to hire labor. Those robo-cookers weren't going to fill themselves with the raw material needed to spit out the same product that a human could.

I think people really need to be concerned not about commercial products for people that use themselves but rather the contractor level stuff for businesses and govt agencies that only a few people (that love buzzwords) make a decision that affects thousands to millions of people.

Our ecom system blasts out 5 new AI features in every quarterly update but if I'm off one letter searching the inventory in the backend it returns zero results. AI has nothing to do with helping people do anything.

Even in generative AI there is a lot of dull, repetitive, but necessary writing that an LLM is well suited to doing (not by itself, but good enough to get you to 80% and augmenting your work). All these people trying to get AI to write Shakespeare when the real demand is for it to write TPS reports
