I don’t think that Democrats are ever going to figure out why they lost the election. IMO, they seem to be unable to comprehend that there is a large number of Americans that actually disagree with their policies and the performance of the Biden/Harris administration.
Problem isn't the groups, the problem is that we dismantled the democratic party organizing platform to satisfy centrists and radicals who thought "surely this will enable us to take over" and instead we got a collection of the worst special interests ripping the copper out of the walls.
Nice try but this is way overthinking it. Maybe there's a been a real reactionary turn in California but as far as I can tell this stupid election was mainly the Biden coalition depressed over Gaza (is AIPAC a Group or not?) Biden's unpopularity, and the failure of Harris to disagree with him
There are also Groups that aren't representative of the Dem base at all, like police unions, who nonetheless receive tremendous deference even as the actively attempt to defeat Democrats. It's a useless classification that lets politicians off the hook for poor choices
I'm tired of reading about blue states and cities without any discussion of the PNW. Oregon flipped a Congressional seat and returned a super majority in the state leg. Lowest swig right, Washington. lhttps://www.axios.com/local/seattle/2024/11/27/washington-presidential-election-republican-shift
I do think a big factor in Oregon's limited turn was that Ted Wheeler was quite moderate relative to Portland overall. I actually think he was a very good mayor given what he was handed.
It’s not clear to me that there are a lot of social conservative/fiscal populists available to democrats, to the extent they have coherent economic views folks who went from Biden to trump seem to be moderate or center right so I sort of contest Murphys statement
