You don’t get to be a president/chancellor by having principles and valuing education to the point of sacrifice. You get there by being good at scrounging for dollars and giving wealthy donors/trustees what they want to hear.

I suspect they are spending their weekend with legal counsel crafting the legal challenge (and probably debating who is paying how much for the legal fees). But, I could be wrong and it'll be telling what is said in any accompanying press releases.

Chancellors and presidents of universities are gatekeepers to business and political elite reproduction. They will take the side of whoever is politically powerful in the moment. It will take staff and faculty protest and walkouts to force their hand.

Probably desperately trying to figure out how they are going to manage to keep their universities from collapsing. They are definitely not sleeping. And they know among the many things they can do, shouting in our defense will not be very effective. But the silence does affect people inside badly.

They're happy to see faculty take it on the chin, and since most of them didn't know how unis worked before this, they have no clue how much damage is coming and don't care. They'll hop to the next job like they were gonna do anyway, leaving fac and staff to pick up the pieces like we always do.
