If you can find a used Toyota, I highly recommend. I got a 2010 Toyota Prius for a pretty good price and it’s been a breeze to maintain. I pay like $30ish a month in gas (I live in an area with lower gas prices though, and drive like 6ish miles a day).

Toyota Corolla or Yaris. Look up best and worst years, most sites agree on those. My mechanic says they’re the easiest to work on, cheapest to maintain because they made millions of them so parts are easy to find. I just got a Yaris, I love it.

I've had my Nissan Versa for 10 years and love it. It's very small, great on mileage, low maintenance, and hasn't had any major problems yet.

I drive a 2018 Honda fit. The price was right and the only things I’ve had to repair/replace in the last 6 years are tires, brakes, and something that went screwy with a door handle. I had a Prius before this and the mpg is comparable. I’m a NY’er and it does good in snow, too! I’m at 130k miles
