I take it back, there are Greens mentioning HSR as an airport expansion alternative 👏🏼

Proud to be standing with @carladenyer.bsky.social and fellow @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social councillors against the expansion of Bristol Airport.
The UK should be investing in high speed rail networks that interlink with our European neighbours, not more fossil-fueled air capacity.

My point exactly, I know it's policy, but I wouldn't know from hearing the leadership speak, which is a problem when opposing airport expansion so vocally. You (The Greens) support a fantastic and climate friendly alternative, so make the case!

I appreciate you doing that Phil. I'm glad to hear it is being raised. FWIW I think the Greens are the only party offering a slight ray of hope in an otherwise total political hellscape of a country, so thanks for that. I just really want to stop having to drive everywhere. HS2 in full 🤘🏼

There are Greens who support HSR until you suggest an actual route, and then suddenly there are overwhelming objections. Fickle friends of any strategic development. See any windfarm proposal.

I would have thought that's one way HS2 is ever so slightly easier, the route is already agreed isn't it? You could literally press go on at least going all the way to Manchester tomorrow and create growth. I love the way people discuss Heathrow expansion as if it's happening in less than 20 years.

There are many Greens who support building actual routes of HSR.
I'm one of the @greens4hs2.bsky.social organisers who successfully got a motion passed at conference to support building the original y-shaped network in full.
That's much more ambitious than the Lib dems' current policy on it afaik.

I would also love to see that, and I do appreciate the massive amount of work you've done on this Emma. I guess it just feels like now is THE time to be championing HS2 in particular. Even just to Manchester to make LHR-MCR flights unviable.

I'm glad you do, we agree. The Toton station was supposed to be 2 miles from here an would have cut a journey to Leeds (~1:45h last week on Northern trains) to 27min. But too many in your party was writing nonsense like this:

I get why people near that line objected, though don't agree given the numbers of lines there already. But some of the campaigning was deeply dishonest and has done so much harm to investment in the midlands and the north.
