That said, there is no reason why films like Luca/Turning Red could not be merch monsters (especially Turning Red!). So there's a second order issue of what's really going on here, and why is it Pixar/Disney can't manage to do for these films what they do for Cars and Toy Story.

Silly movie, but the target audience has different tastes maybe.
Also, we're backing away from international markets as we grow more insular and xenophobic.
Turning Red fits more into art supplies and plushies and the like which they think won't sell as well still for some reason. :P

I mean, as opposed to stuff like Frozen and all the White Princess movie products which they saturate the market with?
