In my experience, unsubscribe links tend to tag you for more e-mails from unscrupulous people who buy marketing lists, not actually unsubscribe you from anything.

Did that for years, but then a bunch got through because the started replacing “unsubscribe” with variations of “manage your email preferences” and “click here if you no longer want to hear from us”. It’s still pretty effective, but not as it once was.

It’s a good trick. At work, I used to filter out all email that was CC’d to me and put it in the “I might look at this someday” folder that also automatically purged anything older than six months.

Also - don’t trust the “unsubscribe” links. I unsubscribed from something the other day and still receive multiple emails. I also laugh at at Gmail asking if you want to unsubscribe from something.

Oh no, I meant actual mail. I made one donation each to two charities as Christmas presented one year and ended up on a few mailing lists, I got like a dozen pieces of mail every month for over a year from charities, mostly not the two I donated to.
