Thanks for sharing this and reminding everyone what a major project it is to coordinate a world-wide convention and competition of any sort. Many might also want to read the bio of the Hugos namesake: Hugo Gernsback of Amazing Stories. I love his 7 unique pen names.

And this is precisely why I oppose competition and awards in any of the arts. Music. Literature. Theatre. Film, et al It invariably leads to more competition, and elevated or worst impulses as human beings. I've been active in the music and theatrical arts world since the age of 5, and 1/2

have never seen any benefit to them. I've taught music and theatre as well as performed/ designed/built/ in those worlds. Doing it is the reward. No trophies needed. Competition is anathema to the arts.
