The agency I work with, SSA, already started using AI to replace hearing transcriptionists.

The basic problem, as anyone with a smartphone should know by now, is that even in transcription, AI hallucinates a lot, often flipping the meaning completely such as changing "can" to "can't".

this is also a very odd debate for me, sometimes it's confusing which side I should be on. I think that they could make the process less labor-intensive, but frankly it's not the Democrats who made it this complicated, it's like this because Republicans want excuses not to pay.

if an AI tool could get me to basically the same outcome (80% of initial claims wrongly denied) in an hour instead of six months, I would take that improvement. But give an inch; I worry that if we concede on that, we'll end up with bad AI replacing actual judges.

similarly, the only real justification for the staffing issues causing massive delay delays in payment after adjudication is redundant verifications, again, a GOP policy to "prevent waste." I don't know that I would be upset if we could automate that part. but I think GOP budget Hawks would be.

so far the only official AI deployment that we have seen is the hearing audio transcripts. but this is definitely something I'm worried about, I don't necessarily want a united healthcare algorithm involved. That said, initial determinations are already wrong 80% of the time and waste 6+ months.

Thank you for your responses. I’m still hoping for an approval. In the initial review they had my Date of last insured wrong. Thus, they were saying I wasn’t disabled enough. But the correct date is now in the system. I’m hoping that my major surgery date is enough to warrant a yes
