There's not much consolation to be found in that their grandchildren and/or their grandchildren will also suffer the effects of climate change just as ours will, since they seem to deny that in favour of short term gains.
Trump's MO throughout his career has been to bully & bluster & front-up anyone who pushes back. It's a tactic that's led to him being the most powerful man in the Western world, & he's not going to stop now. The surprise is we didn't seen more of this Greenland/Panama/Canada stuff last time around.
To my mind, any perceived victory by such people is only ever short lived for them.
The moral lesson here is you can only fool some of the people for some of the time - and that’s the point. Any perceived win by such people is a deceit.

As bad as any one statement/policy is, it's more about the overall message.
Decrying the 'state of the world' isn't about cold war nukes or climate emergency any more, it's about who's "winning" and the direction of travel.
Brexit. Abbott. Johnson. Trump. Farage. Musk, Tate, whoever. They can all say the easy things, stir up populism and "win".
But nobody's been a success yet. They've all failed eventually.
