My mom, now: "Big bird had it coming for indoctrinating all those kids."
Now they vote for a political party that wants to sell them all off for mining rights.
It is intensely aggravating knowing that they reaped the benefits of government spending (and whiteness), then deny they owe their success to anything other than hard work. Those Reagan graphs were my statement to them.
I count myself so fucking lucky that my whole family is on the same page. We fight (cause we’re Jews) but in the end we basically all agree.

For more than a 100 years educators and administrators have inadvertently stigmatized independence, creativity, intelligence ,or innovation- by excluding anyone who deviates from conformity. Some labels lie.
Longer answer: They bought Reagan's "the government is the problem" bullshit (denying they owe their success to public universities), then followed the GOP descent into utter nuttery. They're afraid and angry despite having absolute safety and privilege.
