Musk bribing people? Oh, he’s definitely about to run a Twitter poll:
🗳️ “Is it a bribe or just a friendly billionaire tip?”
— Yes (gets deleted)
— No (gets pinned)
"A Wisconsin judge declined to stop billionaire Elon Musk from handing over $1 million checks to two voters in the state at a planned rally days before the closely contested Supreme Court election. The state attorney general immediately appealed after the judge refused to hear the request."
Do not be surprised if there isn’t a wanted ad for Patricia Fehy by the snowflakes in the current administration. They want to charge people with treason, if they hurt Elon Musk’s feelings!
For example, Dealer Parity Fee, Service and Warranty Contribution Tax, EV Transition Incentives for Traditional Dealers, or Graduated Taxation, where newer EV companies receive a grace period until they reach a predetermined market share.
They can’t be sold in South Carolina, the law is a little more convoluted but the goal is the same, it blocks Tesla electric vehicle sales and service.
Funny of things have turned.
NO BAN, let consumers choose. They know what type of person he is!
People who buy a brand new one, everyone will know who they are too! There are more really good EV brands out there that outdo this one;
In my state, MO, that would not work. We are a right to work state. Anyone can be fired for any reason at any time. If you are not part of a union then you are screwed. Tesla is nonunion. 🤦♀️
I think it is about taking away Tesla exceptions. All car manufacturers sell cars through independent parties. But Tesla has exceptions to sell directly.
He’s a terrorist. We should allow him to run his business here so he can continue to make money while terrorizing us? No way,his citizenship should be revoked, and he should be deported.
I do not negotiate with terrorists. He also recently committed a felony, we don’t want his kind here in our country, nor operating a business and getting tax subsidies!
I hate the guy too. But acting like Trump isn’t the answer.
Tesla is a dead company. The only way it can be save it is Elon to fully divest & trash the company. The state of NY doesn’t need to go fascist to kill it
And you also have people like the owner of this thread believing this terrorist should not have everything taken from him and his business should not be shut down. This is why we are here! Other countries do not put up with this shit or operate this way.
This should have been done long ago. The way our country operated, even before DT, is highly flawed & caters to businesses and property over the welfare of actual people and the health of the nation. This is not sustainable and is blatantly apparent, & you want to just continue down the same path.
While I agree that we should let consumers "deal with" Elon via Tesla, it doesn't hurt to treat him like trump is treating America. Issuing nonstop EO's designed to keep us guessing and confused. If lawmakers all over America want to submit or enact all kinds of different laws that keep musk busy?
Ok, not for anything but this goes too far, and only plays into MAGA’s perpetual victim mentality. Let there be dealerships and the public decide to buy or not which based on Tesla’s stock performance of late is a resounding ‘no’ !
This doesn’t make sense to me. Tesla doesn’t have a monopoly on cars and trucks. We are all free to purchase other types of vehicles. I have never been forced to buy or own a Tesla so that I could have a car or truck. And I have never owned a Tesla. Have you been forced to buy a Tesla? 🤔
I disagree with this. I think Tesla should absolutely be able to spend millions in the state on showrooms, repair centers etc while paying taxes on all of it........Then after writing all those checks, have to sit back and watch no one buying them 😂
I have designed a poster for the upcoming HANDS OFF! protests on Saturday, April 5th. If anyone wants a printable file of it, please message me : ) Find out more about the protests here: https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/
Lots of cars are not allowed to be sold on lots of countries because they fail to meet safety standards. But it would have to be clear this is the case.
The "headline" shouldn't be about Tesla, is should be about safety standards. But these headlines are useful to help tank the stock price.
I'd maybe agree if the vehicles were safe, but the cybertruck for example is dangerous to drive. After things are sorted out politically I'd like more standards and regulations for vehicles.
So, the shoddy product + Musk having too much power for one man, dealerships should be shut down imo.
Disagree with this. He has a right to make an investment. It will create jobs. And we have a right to see him fail, lose $Billions when consumers reject the brand 🤠.
Car dealerships gouge their customers and provide a lousy buying experience. We should have a hassle free option to buy from the manufacturer.
I'm as mad at Elon as anyone and support the Tesla Takedown.
But please don't support the car dealerships strangleholds in all the states.
I think it is about taking away Tesla exceptions. All car manufacturers sell cars through independent parties. But Tesla has exceptions to sell directly.
As much as I can't stand Elon and what is happening, I would rather see her put in legislation that protects her citizens from the privacy violation or specific actions the administration is taking illegally. The government attacking a business because we don't like the owner is what THEY do.
“What they do”, please stop with that shit. It isn’t a thing anymore. Grow some canines and BITE or be bitten.
Also, both things can be done. Legislation against Elon and his horrible businesses and products as well as protections for citizens of New York. You don’t have to chose.
I agree. This is short sighted legislation with big repercussions. I despise Elon and all he stands for but let the market dispose of Tesla and demand no govt subsidies to bail his obscenely rich ass out. Handle the imperative issues.
Elon Musk ran away from responsibility. In S. Africa, he was required to serve in their military. He got a student visa to Canada, to evade service. From there, 5 months in, he'd dropped school & became a dual citizen before the US.
You can always travel to another state if you’re so desperate for a tin can car People in Jersey go to Pa all the time for cars Id be happy if we didn’t have them here
Only way to make Elon go away is it hurt him and Tesla, and to hurt them bad. That’s just a fact. No more normal playing field. Hit them in their wallet, that’s the only thing that matters to them.
This legislation does that, while their bigger fish to fry, Elon is tippy top of that list. He goes..
100% Muskrat has used the monies, the stock from Telsa to buy other acquisitions, and to interfere in elections world wide. Destroy Telsa it's his cash cow, it's beginning to have an effect.Telsa stock is down 50% since 12/24 & he lost 132B dollars, that's why trump turned the WH LAWN
And it proves the fascists right, makes them victims. They get more power using the victim card. Better for there to be dealerships, and for the citizens of New York to say fuck you, and not buy them.
I agree. And once he's charged with crimes, then remove his right to do business in the state...but start with stopping him and proving him a criminal.
P.S. I have zero tolerance and patience for obtuse people who insist—without having read the proposed law, no doubt—that the law, on its face, would be targeting a business for its politics.
That would be a a government action in clear violation of the 1st Amendment.
🩷 True. Once business is attacked for being a business then we lose good investors who would try in the market. We the people need to make good life choices when we buy products. Bad businesses fail over time and good businesses thrive when they meet our needs.
Looks like you think similar to Chuck Schumer. To me time is of the essence so there is no time for overthinking this and waiting for them to self destruct. Speedy responses are what are required now. Privacy violations the courts can take care of.
If only MAGA were as sincere as you in their beliefs. Sadly their beliefs are warped.
Probably too late for pitchforks. Madame Guillotine might be required. Anyway at least we can agree to disagree.
Hypothetically, would you think it OK if Hilter were to open an Art Gallery to sell his paintings? He was a talented oil painter, after all, so why not? Elon Musk is doing terrible things to people. Imo everything should be done to stop him.
Boycott his businesses, take him to court. Hitler was proven to have committed crimes against humanity. Make the case against Musk and the ban him as a criminal.
Some of it works, but only halfway... Trump attacks companies and uses Pay to Play bribery. It's working, but if our court systems work it will be stopped. If not, he's going to piss of all of his fans eventually. I do not support any governmental attacks on a business for political power.
Tesla is no longer a private non partisan business. It is now a tool of hostile evil forces destroying the country. We have every right to protect ourselves from evil forces.
We tried going low to counter the communists in several countries. You don't defeat evil by practicing evil. Then what's the difference between them and us?
The US has defeated evil by practicing evil MANY times! WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq/Saddam.
I am NOT a violent person. For our whole lives they said violence isn’t the answer. How many battle have been won by playing nice and “reaching across the aisle” lately!?
Which? I’m a Dem and I’m disgusted with the wimpy inaction of our elected representatives. I’m not impressed by paper pushing, get out and show us. Like AOC and Bernie. Did I mention that I’m a Democrat!
Look what happened when they were turned off the last time,we got trump & musk. They better get used to anything that goes bcs we need any and all help to get rid of these assholes and if this hurts in his wallet or stockholders then bring it on. I'm kind of sick of the don't tread on independents
Nearly half the country sat it out. Others believed Trump’s lies about lowering prices I spite of his talk about tariffs. He won with less than 50% of the vote.
The government banning a company from doing business in a state because the CEO is a piece of shit is likely illegal. If an investigation into Tesla reveals fraud or business malpractice, NY could bar them. (based on what happened with the Trump org).
I don’t actually think it’s possible. I’m not a lawyer but I think you can ban products for being unsafe, but I don’t think you can ban a company like this. Yes - let consumers handle it. It’s working.
What a dumb move. Just let the market decide. It’s working as it should. Why do these idiots keep shooting themselves in the foot? They continue to give clown republicans the chance to show overreach.
I hope it passes. But, if it does, can the people libs compete against do it to a more liberal company? My take: Precedent may be worse than T-el-sa dealerships. I say let them keep the dealerships and encourage everyone to boycott. Bankruptcy is better than banning.
There's a difference between "dealerships" where sales take place and "showrooms," where you test drive, but order online. Both would have to be banned. Semantics.
What's your source for that claim? I think Teslas are actually the safest cars. Crash tests, driver safety, emissions impacts of GHGs. I dislike elon's politics right now too but Teslas are safe.
Dude, are you a bot?! The data is easily available. It's a quick Google search of deaths per billion miles by brand. This is a statistic that's not really in dispute. Teslas have an alarmingly high death rate. They rank among the highest in the auto industry. FFS.
I highly doubt this is true. When is the last time you, with your own eyes, saw a Tesla involved in a crash? More like Tesla is the brand most likely to be reported in the news when there is a crash.
Oh, you don't understand how statistics work. Okay, so, like, there are WAY fewer Teslas on the road than, say, Fords. So you, person driving around, are going to see way more Fords in wrecks because in terms of straight numbers, there are more to get wrecked. See?
"Per billion road miles, more people die in Teslas than in other brands" is the conclusion, not the reason. Maybe people who buy Teslas are, as a monolithic class of drivers, much more likely to drive like dipshits, but being locked in a burning vehicle with unbreakable windows doesnt help. 🤷♂️
Who reached that conclusion? I'm genuinely curious. My understanding is that the data shows that Teslas are much less likely to be in a crash per billion miles driven than the NHTSA average.
The study specifically didn’t attempt to explain why.
“As with the model rankings, it's possible these high fatal accident rates reflect driver behavior as much or more than vehicle design.”
Here in BC Vancouver police are assigning 130 police to guard Tesla dealerships during the protests this weekend. 28 Teslas have been vandalized this year in what police say is probably for political reasons. Their sales in Europe are down 75%.
As much as I dislike Tesla and I did not call the police when I saw one get vandalized they the police are supposed to protect public property. Would not be the first time VPD over reacted they did so with Canucks rink security and the crackdown on liquor at the fireworks.
Ok hear me out. This is a step too far. I get the reason, even support the premise, but this is ALSO fascisty. Let market forces do their thing. Not everything needs to be codified. We should not condone the same fascist antics used by the Right. Let it fail. Dealers will switch.
Seems kinda stupid as fuck to protest a facist government's vindictive targeting of specific political opponents by... suggesting a reciprocal vindictive targeting? What an absolute fucking waste of everyone's time. PRIMARY that performative turd!
Read the bill (or other comments). Meme is incorrectly stating what the bill would do. Tesla has a monopoly and the bill wants to review the law that is keeping others out.
Texas did it ….. you can buy a Tesla in Texas, but due to Texas franchise laws, you can't do so directly from Tesla's company-owned outlets; instead, you must order online and have the vehicle shipped to a service center in the state
They're already banned in Texas. But that was a holdover from a era ten years ago when the Texas Lege decided they did not want online sales of cars and did not like how electric cars were too "woke" and threatened the oil industry...
While you could not pay me to drive a tesla, I would rather they introduce legislation to protect voting rights, or school lunch programs, or public libraries, or women's reproductive rights, or LGBTQ rights, or the rights and benefits of our military and veterans, or our our freedom of speech...
Yes, you're right, why not do all these things? So...are they? If so, not hearing about it. All I see here is the banning of tesla dealerships, which should be around number 5,254 on the list of important things to legislate.
Yes, Democrats in the New York state legislature have done or are trying to do pretty much all of these things. They're not going to get as much sensationalist press as an attempt to hit back at Musk, but they do get local press coverage if you know where to look. I wish the coverage were better.
i sure hope they are write to you congress people park outside their office make a lot of noise and do some civil disobedience. as it stands now we have no rule of law
Yes, Bernie and AOC and Crockett are all speaking up, and doing a wonderful job at it! So where's the rest of the dems? Jeez, I sure hope they're doing a lot of things we aren't hearing about. Because we're kind of in a 18-alarm fire right now.
I can't imagine what would make somebody's pinky as long as the longest finger on their hand except Ai or he's a freak of nature, which hey, he may be...?
1 - Tesla doesn't have dealerships, so this would likely be a ban on direct sales.
2 - I'd rather see them finally allow direct sales of other EV brands. Tesla is the ONLY one allowed to do this. Talk about special privilege. The AH can't even sell his cars without getting special treatment.
Probably. The last stop for the tesla case is the state court soon.
Wisconsin requires third party dealerships to keep things fair and balanced as the law says.
Musk/Tesla don't want to allow 3rd party sales even in one state.
This is the reason there is tax inequality. Voters making between $578k and 10M are taxed like billionaires. Most of these are small businesses. Let's push Congress to create 2 new tax brackets. $500M & Above and $1B & Above. These should be treated special since they want to be special. Tax at 91%.
Sounds like the very type of fascism that Democrats constantly complain about. The same type of conduct that marked the Biden years. It is the kind of thing that scares away new businesses from opening in states where this type of government exists.
This is not entirely true. Fahy wants to issue a bill to end Tesla's monopolization over the ev market in New York. The bill will aim to foster competition and innovation in the marketplace, "revoking direct sales permits from five existing Tesla stores in New York.
If passed, the New York bill would keep in place a five-store limit placed on direct sales locations, but would require the state’s DMV to re-evaluate existing permits and issue new ones, excluding Tesla,
which currently holds all five of the available permits.
“This legislation provides controlled growth of New York’s ZEV market by not granting indefinite privileges to early entrants—currently, all five direct sales locations are located downstate and are operated by Tesla, Inc.
, which limits consumer choice and prevents other manufacturers from entering the market,” Fahy’s office writes in the release. “The bill would allow new manufacturers to enter the market and ensure that there is an opportunity to expand these locations geographically.”
Swastikar dealers can go to the Bible belt... I'm sure all magaettes will be willing to buy them, while trading in their f250 at 14 miles to the gallon. Womp womp.
Ford Pinto was taken off the roads with FEWER explosions/fires than Tesla. MORE people have dies d/t Tesla related crashes and fires than Pinto. She has the right idea.
Banning Tesla dealerships in NY is stupid and probably illegal. Just let consumers do their job of not buying Teslas. The legislature should focus their efforts better.
You must be replying to the original poster, right? There was no linked source and he said what he said. It's not really worth my time to vet this one. Don't be mad at me, be mad at the spin if you are saying it's not accurate. Left or right, we have a lot of dumb bills put forth. So..I'm moving on
You took a lot of time to type out that pretentious response for someone who allegedly has better things to be doing. I hope reading is one of them. You could even find the bill on your own because it's a public record, no need to wait for it to be shoved in your face.
Up to Jan 20th, I would have been steadfastly opposed to any state banning a company. Since Trumpo there wants to extort law firms, now say, go for it. IT'S OBVIOUSLY ON NOW. ;) ;)

Government should never target individual businesses like this

EVERYDAY is PUNCH A NAZI DAY! 👊👍
J could likely not actually identify a modern day Nazi if a life depended on it.
I fully approve. They should be forced to franchise dealerships like everyone else.
Teslas have failed all sorts of safety standards.
The "headline" shouldn't be about Tesla, is should be about safety standards. But these headlines are useful to help tank the stock price.
It also screws over anyone in NY that already owns a Tesla and needs to have it serviced.
Ban the dealership, they become a martyr of government overreach.
So, the shoddy product + Musk having too much power for one man, dealerships should be shut down imo.
I'm as mad at Elon as anyone and support the Tesla Takedown.

It’s literally a bullshit and needless middleman. Which always screws over consumers.

👀 to FINLAND the happiest country in the world for a blue print of things to aspire towards
Then start legislation that works towards that end goal

And let him go bankrupt the old-fashioned way.

That would be a a government action in clear violation of the 1st Amendment.
I kinda hate that some are lumping Teslas in with nazis.
We need EVs now more than ever.
And certain not American made.
Why should Tesla have an exclusive competitive advantage over every other car company?
Probably too late for pitchforks. Madame Guillotine might be required. Anyway at least we can agree to disagree.
FUCK reaching across the aisle! We need to hit them everywhere we can. So doing what you’re talking about AND banning Tesla.
#teslatakedown.
I am NOT a violent person. For our whole lives they said violence isn’t the answer. How many battle have been won by playing nice and “reaching across the aisle” lately!?
This proposal to legislate is more performance than legal action.
I’m tired of this kind of inaction action.
Democrats have no vision.
Fighting petty corrupt people by also being petty & corrupt is not a winning strategy.
These people's brains don't work like you think! BTW, they always hold Democrats to a higher standard than Republicans.
Anyone who hasn't noticed is surely not paying attention to the details of US politics.
Sadly, that's not saying much.
This is a perfect example of a legislator who is more for getting her name out there than for the work of governing. Sadly, there are a lot of them.
This is unique because of how Involved Musk is in gov and how many conflicts of interests there are. Any action to take down Musk spec, go for it.
He can’t have everything and that should be the lesson.
make it make sense.
“As with the model rankings, it's possible these high fatal accident rates reflect driver behavior as much or more than vehicle design.”
A rather stupid use of unintentional fake news.
