“Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff comfort me. Thou preparest a table for me in the midst of mine enemies.” I learned this in kindergarten in the KJV so I can’t say it any other way 😂
Besides the ever present Christ hymn of Philippians, I’m thinking a lot about the prologue chapters of Genesis and the “Thoughts of men were only ever evil continually”
11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie (2 Thessalonians 2:11 NIV)
Reminds me that arguing with relatives devoted to cruelty serves no point. Instead I just gotta pray against that delusion they are consumed with.
Matthew 7:12
New International Version
12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
I pray through the daily office every morning, and the suffrages prayer has been especially meaningful (in addition to the scripture). “Guide those who govern us, and lead us in the way of justice and truth…Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor be taken away.”
I hear you. Maybe it would be helpful reading through some replies here to see which scripture faithful Christians are finding comforting. This is one reason I wanted to ask. 🩷
"Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us
and persevere in running the race that lies before us
while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus,
the leader and perfecter of faith."
I don’t often reflect on the old testament, but I’ve been doing that lately in the context of how the powerful, through government & religion combined, controlled and how His true followers heard Him and reacted.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law
Gal 5:22–23.
James 5
Come now, you rich people, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver have corroded, and their corrosion will serve as a testimony against you and will consume your flesh like fire.
2 Corinthians 5:21 Complete Jewish Bible
21 God made this sinless man be a sin offering on our behalf, so that in union with him we might fully share in God’s righteousness.”
The stranger who sojourns with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?...
For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face.

They collapse and fall down: but we will arise and stand upright.
