I have adopted the theory i learned from @todd-kemp.bsky.social, which posits the existence of a “blackboard field” that increases the likelihood of making certain mistakes the closer you get to the board. I explain to students that the theory transfers to whiteboards as well.

It used to be that when I would make a mistake during a lecture and a student would catch me, I would say "Oh yes, that's a chalko. A chalko is a typo you make with chalk."
Now my university only has whiteboards with markers, so instead I say "Oh yes, that's a marko...."
It just isn't the same.
