I was on a job site near Arlington, OR years ago. I asked what that beautiful mountain was off in the distance & they told me Mt. Hood. You can imagine my surprise when they told me it was 70 miles away!
Having lived in the Columbia Gorge for 14 years - we never were bored with the incredible views. You could drive an hour in any direction and enjoy spectacular changing ecosystems. Love the snow fog effect.
I haven't seen every mountain in this country, but Mt. Hood is the most beautiful I've ever seen. Its shape is so elegant and it looks so peaceful from afar.
Yes. I spent a year living in Olympia, WA, about 9 months after Helen erupted. I was there for all the outdoor second-story window sills still piled with ash & the summer the tomatoes grew the size of watermelons. Educational.
Wow, what an experience! I have relatives from Washington state, but none were as close as you. Still, their minds were blown, and they've never stopped being amazed by it, especially the process of how life returned. Never heard about the melons, tho. Amazing!
The biggest things that came into the Pike Place Market in Seattle were on the local TV news almost every night. It's AMAZING how volcanic ash fertilizes. Also why everything grows back so *fast*. Happening in Hawaii right now. Ancient trees they thought were dead last yr are starting to come back.
Wow, that is a real life true MIRACLE! Thanks so much for sharing this! I'm going to think about it every day when I start to lose hope about this new Dump administration.
