it’s not an important point at all, but I just can’t get over the fact that these people apparently believe they’d do well in a “meritocracy” after failing upwards their entire lives

Nepo kids attend expensive schools as legacies because their grades and SATs won't get them into prestigious public universities. Then they are welcomed into old boys network and hire UCLA grads to handle their thinking.
Expect I’m old enough to remember eg actor Lori Laughlin got her nepo babies into USC under the guise of athletic scholarship loophole, where Rick Sanger also did the same for UCLA admissions.
this is because "meritocracy" is thinly veiled code. the merit is in their existence, to them, and they feel everyone ELSE has something to prove. there are no real meritocracies and the recipients of benefit know that, but "white ethnostate where women have no rights" is bad for optics.
They believe no such thing. Not have they ever. Which is why they've never competed, just asserted. They are losers who having no viable means of winning resort to violence and suppression to have their moment in the sun.
Failing upwards, I haven't heard that term since my friend who worked for the Canadian government used it to describe how departments got rid of unwanted people. Get them promoted so they could be someone else's problem 😂
Right?!! It’s people who would look at the sun till they physically go blind, and tell you the whole time that there is no sun. It’s a made up paradigm.
The fact that one of their top priorities when gaining power is to remove as much trace of DEIA from public life as quickly as possible tells a lot about what they know is true deep down.
Reality is that they screw up everything they touch leaving things way worse than it was before. 🙂↕️
It was like a lightbulb turned on in my head when I realized the majority of mediocre people inherently KNOW they'd be lost without the unfair system that propels their mediocrity to great heights, so they project that insecurity constantly personally while working to embed it systemicly.
We woke up this morning to news that the administration thinks accreditation is broken; they want to refocus higher ed on merit. And I guess we're all supposed to have forgotten Trump University, which was sued out of existence because it swindled students, never earned accreditation. Merit indeed.
I actually think this massively important. It speaks to how incredibly insecure they are. They bluster a lot, but at their core they’re all scared children whose parents didn’t love them enough, every last one of them.
This is actually why I'm quite grateful I was fired from my previous job. I've been more or less certain that I only got where I did because of my circumstances and finally, someone agreed with me. Fighting for the current gig did me a lot of good.
Exactly.
The risks they take, decisions they make, all reflect a life where such actions were clearly consequence-free😑
No way a true meritocracy would reward them, but thanks to all that coddling they haven't a F'ing clue.😒
working in small business most of my career with owners who just started their company because they had the capital to do so, they are incredibly useless but believe they are the reason everyone working for them "has jobs and can eat" so they feel superior to their employees for all time.
Sadly it’s because in their minds they didn’t “fail” upwards, they were fully deserving of all the promotions because they’re them and they’re special and the best
Meritocracy, as used by the right, has come to mean preferential treatment for white, Christian men.
So, yeah, they think they'd be doing better under one. Although, ironically, they'd actually be doing worse because they currently benefit from the hard work of talented "DEI" hires.
I think the problem is that they have not evolved enough to understand how empathy works so they resort to survivalist tactics that worked in the past.
Unfortunately, the actual fucking PLANET disagrees with them.
I broke this down more in this EXTREMELY long thread.

Or the European equivalent;
Come on as a sub 3-nil up, thinks they scored a hat trick

Which is a good thing for him since he comes off as a comical buffoon via TV and social media posts.

1. They’ve secured their position without it.
2. They impose their own standards (cough cough) on everyone else.
Reality is that they screw up everything they touch leaving things way worse than it was before. 🙂↕️
this is a feudal system.
they are the lords. we are the vassals. and we have to earn/fight for our various positions and income through our service/labor to them.
they're just reaping the rewards.

But it is wild.
Taking conservatives at face value is usually a mistake.

I am because we are
No one is truly self made
