This is what CBC haters forget or don't even know. It's a lifeline in rural Canada. Ask farmers in SK who rely on it for agribusiness news and farm reports. No one at "The Wolf" FM is doing local.

One doesn’t have VC owned weather stations, why should we have VC backed ‘news’? It’s a service, not a luxury to be profited off of. Sure, some ads to help with the running costs are fine, but all media should be not for profit.

Yes! Fully agree. And it's a breath of fresh air compared to city media. Moving from GTA to NW Ontario ca. 2008 was a culture shock but probably the biggest one was actually enjoying talk radio. CBC One saved me with its quirky shows like Vinyl Café, like Marvin's Room, Spark, and Ideas. Good stuff.

I have a long list of issues with the CBC, but they are still my number one news source for local, regional and national news.

They absolutely suck when covering science & technology using reporters that are literally inumerate. For business and financial reporting/analysis they are weak at best.

in my rural New Brunswick community, i cannot get recently released Top 40 music. We have three English radio stations, 1. 80s/90s music, 2. country music, and 3. Christian radio station. CBC is available and if you have a good FM receiver, you can get CBC Music. CBC Listen app is key to listening..

...to CBC. best use of CBC was a few years back when we, in the Maritimes, were being pummelled by a hurricane. CBC scrambled an emergency live broadcast hosted by Jeff Douglas, yes the Jeff Douglas of I Am Canadian fame. No commercial network would ever do that.
