The special is called "51st State: A Cross Border Conversation". Not "American Invasion", or "Violent Annexation", because those might frighten people. No, better to use the framing of the man who's threatening us. We wouldn't want to be rude by spotlighting the violence those threats imply.

Hanomansing and CBC are being absolutely slammed here and on X for this collaborationist normalizing. He won't listen though, he'll just post some condescending nonsense about people being upset at him "just asking questions". CBC needs to do much better in this moment.

Calling it Toryism is wrong though. It's an overarching capitalist ideology, coupled with some of the most rancid, incestuous court politics in the world. A tiny group of people who all mostly went to the same four schools and two universities, engaged in national autocannibalism.

UPDATE: Meta is continuing to censor anti-Musk ads. It has removed a Facebook ad calling for a boycott of Tesla, saying that it violates the company's policy on "unacceptable business practices" muskwatch.com/subscribe

This is an easily exploitable bug of the modern corporate media across the globe. Corporatist extreme right-wing strategists know that they can use the media to normalize the abnormal. There’s no there there. They will keep pushing the boundaries until someone finally pushes back.

“You’re willing to risk our entire network to a 17-year-old? Are you for real right now?” That teen is "Big Balls" Corisitine, the recording is from 2022, and the voice is from a CEO worried about him as a security risk. Now Musk has him snooping in your personal data www.cnn.com/2025/02/21/p...

You need to be treating it with the seriousness it deserves and framing it correctly: a fascist Nazi regime is threatening our sovereignty, economically coercing us into annexation and betraying decades of being allies. Very disappointed in your casualness in the serious of this moment Ian.

Behind Mark Carney’s slick ‘pragmatism’ pitch is the same old austerity agenda. This week on the podcast, @davidmoscrop.com joins Donya Ziaee to break down how Carney is rebranding failed ideas as fresh solutions—and why he’s unfit to meet the moment. breachmedia.ca/mark-carney-...

The words and actions of America’s leaders show they believe that having dark skin or having a vagina is a reason a person shouldn’t be allowed to pilot a plane, while having a drinking or drug problem is not. That’s their priority, and they’re fine with the flying public suffering the consequences.

In 2014, finishing a stint as a baby intern, I blew the whistle about Canadian Geographic providing cover for the oil industry to sneak propaganda into classrooms. A report this week exposes that campaign and much more (and mentions my small role, too!) www.nationalobserver.com/2025/02/19/n...

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I really think the superhero genre melted a lot of white Gentile brains. They genuinely seem to think real life works out like a big budget movie and they can solve everything with magic and clever quips.

Liberals are not a resistance force. They’re still class traitors. They fight to uphold the same exact capitalist system, the same institutionalized racism. Voting blue no matter who is what got us into this perpetual cycle of choosing evils. Libs aren’t ready yet to actually be the resistance.

Wrote about how the yellow star led to increased sympathy for Jews in Germany. atrocity and discrimination wasn't popular...but that didn't stop the genocide. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/atrocities...

CSIS releases a report with info that any activist already knows -- that antisemitic threats are most dangerous and serious coming from the far right, and CBC inexplicably talks to a random cop who says actually, Muslims are still more dangerous. What in the fuck, CBC? www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

‘We can’t afford to take action on climate change because of the economy.’

As always, @chriswarcraft.bsky.social is a real one.

So much of the coverage of bike lanes fails to accurately identify the stakes for those supporting infrastructure and those opposed to it. @momentummag.bsky.social really nails the dynamic, and I wish stories about "local opposition" were more focused on identifying who is speaking out and why.

When all this is over I will be seriously disappointed if Google isn't lost forever among the ashes.

This whole saga has, I think, demonstrated very well my contention that American political journalists believe that they deserve all of the respect and deference that comes with filling a vital societal role, while rejecting the idea that holding such a position also entails duties and obligations.

Meet the Canadians who support U.S. annexation: this 42 year old accountant sucks shit

Defence lawyer Frances Mahon called the decision “precedent setting.” A BC court judge found that racist comments made by RCMP C-IRG officers during a 2021 enforcement on Wet'suwet'en territory could signal a “systemic attitudinal issue” within the unit. @thetyee.ca thetyee.ca/News/2025/02...

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths

Science Win! This AI video of a dog eating spaghetti uses the same amount of power as Haiti!

day 103 of making a cow tools every day unless i don't

Not only did the centrist free speech crowd misidentify the true threat, their specious cries of free speech violations dimmed the alarm for the genuine threat.

New in PN: Unelected billionaire breaks laws to "restore" democracy "In reality, most of what Musk is up to is flatly illegal. Most egregiously, his deletion of entire depts & Trump’s refusal to spend as directed by Congress violates the Constitution. That’s why multiple courts have enjoined them."

"We also need conflict of interest rules with teeth, to have confidence that these contracts are awarded for the right reasons."

Struggling to follow the Ontario election? Thank Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg I wrote about how big social media platforms and their mysterious, unregulated algorithms are manipulating public discourse, suppressing voter engagement and degrading democracy for @thestar.com 👇

USians are so special that even when they fuck up for 3 decades straight, they still think they are better than countries not fucking up exactly where they did. Motherfuckers will be living in Mad Max hellscape and still think their country is a temporarily embarrassed first world country.

what makes this even cooler is that Meta will let ads through for effectively anything

NEW: A couple days ago, Breakdown host Nate Pike announced that he was being court ordered to wipe the Alberta politics show from the web as part of a libel lawsuit from a well-connected Alberta businessman. This development should concern all journalists. open.substack.com/pub/theorcha...

“Walking up to career public servants and shoving them aside isn’t chutzpah: it’s megalomaniacal brain worms. Kliger fancies himself a high-brow warrior on the front lines for technocracy, but he’s nothing but a childish foot soldier being sold a bill of goods by Musk—just like the rest of us.”

When Aaron Bushnell wrote "This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal," he wasn't talking only about Palestine. He was talking about how what we have decided to ACCEPT as normal corrupts us and weakens us.

strongly agreed with Cara. some of y'all talk like you have hidden a spare population of unproblematic, unpropagandized people to build a mass movement out of under your couch cushions or something.

The NDP was being run by an Airbnb lobbyist not so long ago. 🤣😂 Red, blue and orange all work for the same people, and they don't include you. The people who run the NDP are indistinguishable from the people who run the red and the blue teams. They are often the very same people. #IDUPlaybook
