"No trailing commas" isn't JSON's fault, it's because JavaScript didn't allow them in object literals. "No comments" feels like a mistake caused by taking a very sensible emphasis on simplicity slightly too far.

TOML is human readable (and 1:1 convertible to JSON) and kinda sucks too, maybe a little less. Debatable.

Computer readable formats and humans seem to have an unavoidable impedance mismatch.

The problem with TOML is that it is JSON in disguise and you can get very complex, which will inevitably show. Then you start reading the spec again and again to the point where you just drop it and use JSON + a converter.
