Yes the white race is the Supreme race. Can't bring the people of the together but y'all can tell us about an ancestor.3.2 millions ago. Got it. All roads lead to the Vatican. Most of everything. We will never know. Trust and obey cause there no other way. To be happy in trump, the king .
No surprise - since our ancestors came down from the trees, our legs have got stronger and longer. We probably hunted a lot of our prey by running after them until they got exhausted. One theory, anyway.
That's b.s. I knew Luce very well. She was a good friend of mine. She could run like the wind. Even the cheetahs couldn't keep up with her. These scientists are full of it, lemme tell ya.
Smart people never listen to 'em.
Wow, and we wonder why they want to cut the NIH? When a 3 ft 7 in woman, which is about the height of my 4 year old, can outrun me, I'll be ready to retire. But seriously, there probably was something valuable to the study. Declaring we can outrun Lucy was not one of them.
Back when men raised hell and praised Dale, and women were Australopithecus afarensis still trying to invent the wheel… talk about a pit stop in human evolution!
The biggest thing I got from that video was that if any ancestors moved around the world, they were doing it what seems to be 4x slower than humans of modern age. Imagine moving around to parts of the world. If they did and the length of time it would take to get there. mountains would be tough.
Could explain lots of things, like migration patterns and timelines of early humanoid ancestors? Idk just because it doesn’t interest you doesn’t mean it isn’t interesting to some of us
Wow, this is a bit of a weird brag....so "we" can beat a dead, 3 foot tall, ancestor in a foot race? Of all the information you could put in your headline, this was the best you had? Have you been taking headline lessons from NYT or WaPo?
How ironic! This debate came up in the staff workroom just last week. I am so excited I can clear up the debate tomorrow. I was in the Lucy corner, but hey, I've seen my colleagues run at the annual charity 5k. So there's that.
The question is how did our ancestors survive? They obviously could not outrun the large predators they lived with. They did not have any stone weapons to defend with. Their feet no longer were adapted for climbing (even if there was a tree nearby). So how did they survive?
The assumptions in gait mechanics here are pretty weird. You don’t usually see people walking with that much forward tilt and they didn’t bother to model the Psoas role in leg flexion.
Typical, you’ve found the biggest problem of Lucy’s existence and you’re denigrating her, where’s the humanity in that. Humanity, the clues in the word.
When I saw this the first thing I thought was why would you assume that just because Lucy could walk upright that she couldn’t also and might prefer moving like a chimp
Mainly because her pelvis was the wrong shape and how she held her head was badly positioned to allow her to walk with her hands on the ground.
And remember the Laetolie (sp?) footprints.
Hi! Thanks for your reply. I didn’t mean to suggest Lucy and other Australopithecus afarensi always walked on all fours, but, as the study suggests, b/c it probably couldn’t walk efficiently it might bring the arms into play when a bit of speed was needed. Admittedly my knowledge is limited

Are we going to call Usain Bolt a different species then?
Modern humans can't beat him in a foot race either.

I bet she was NOT hot.
Fairer to try her at a school sports day.
She had a lot on her mind
And remember the Laetolie (sp?) footprints.
