My dog had no functioning pancreas and she lived healthy life using pancreatic enzymes meant for humans instead of the expensive ones the vet prescribed her first.

Not necessarily. My standard poodle was diagnosed with this in 2016. He's still going strong. Takes a flight of stairs in about 4 leaps, will play fetch for as many throws as you can do(his record is 300, and I called it quits). He's having a lot of fun.

Our Coonhound has that - Exocrine Pancreas Insufficiency (EPI). Poor guy was starving to death despite being fed. We put pancreatic enzymes on his food before he eats. They are expensive but he’s worth it! So is Panda.

Our beloved Gruezi had that disease and almost wasted away before we found the medicine. So glad we did - she lived another decade with us.

FYI, for Panda’s handlers, the powder form of that medicine causes asthma in some people (e.g. me) which took us years to discover. Please pass along.

I mask up when handling the powder. I have a std poodle going on 9 years with EPI. I found a supplier called Enzyme Diane to be the least expensive source for enzymes. 100%, we had no idea so I spent years with asthma before sorting things out.

Still worth it - that dog helped raise two kids :-) . Just wish the medicine label had noted it.

Our cat had pancreatic insufficiency and our vet worked with a local slaughterhouse to get her raw pancreas. Mmm, raw meat! (Well she thought it was great.) Cost us nothing but the time to get a supply every few months and was all she needed.

Same. My golden is on a quest to be the world's most expensive dog. 12 pills a day already and he is recovering from acute pancreatitis right now. He is 4 but looks like he is 12.
