1st grade. It was not fun, trust me.

If you are old enough, you remember getting chickenpox. Everyone got it. If you are young enough, you don’t know what I’m talking about. That’s because vaccines work.

Before the vaccine when a friend or family member’s child got it we would all get together and expose our kids who had not had it before. Sounds awful now but back then we wanted them to get it while young because the effects were worse later in life. Ask your dad about sharing the sucker.

I was very young but I remember the misery. Mumps too, later. A generation later, I almost lost my 6-week-old baby to pertussis when he was exposed before he could get the vaccine. Vaccines save lives and prevent misery!

I'm 73. B4 vac,I had whooping cough. I can remember the Dr making house calls2give me meds.Also had chick pox mumps(had a cloth tied around face/ glands to help with pain) Was In grade school when we got polio vac.Then when the sugar cube/vac was available we went to the Nat guard armory to get it!

You know, I have been harping on the benefits of a more ditch style healthcare system.

But the Dutch don't vaccinate for chicken pox, and also have a very blase attitude to vaccines in general... Which I think is not ideal

Elder child, born before availability had a miserable case at 20 months. Second child was vaccinated and spared the misery and scarring.

I never had it. I’m pretty sure I’m immune.
When I taught kindergarten I rocked a child who was literally breaking out in pox and had a fever. I couldn’t have been more exposed unless I rubbed a sore on my face.

The summer I was five. My mom had 3 of us and we all had chicken pox,measles, and mumps. All are now avoidable with vaccines. Dad was away during the week. It was amazing my mother maintained her sanity

I was 4 and was first of my siblings to get it. Mom was something like 38 weeks pregnant, worried she’d have to isolate with baby for 6 weeks to let it run its course and make it through all of us kids. For us older kids, it wasn’t fun, but for baby brother, could have been fatal.

I don't remember chicken pox, but I do remember shingles. Which I got because I had chicken pox as a child. Two weeks of horrible, itchy, oozing sores. And now a few, albeit small, scars from those sores.

Didn’t get chicken pox til my early 20s, and it was the sickest I hoped I’d ever get. Then I got the flu in the millennial year, and I hoped *that was the sickest I’d ever get. Then I got COVID in my late 50s and, despite being vaxxed & boosted, that *better be the sickest I ever get, or I’m dead.

2nd grade for me. I just wanted to get out of school and go home, felt fine. Instead my mom took me to the doc and diagnosed me. Next day covered in bumps. Still felt fine🙂.

I remember. I had a bad scar to the left of my mouth/chin for years. It finally faded with age. My poor little brother was 6 years younger than I. I brought home measles, mumps & chicken pox to him.
