We get a couple of woodperckers every now and then. Hoping they stop by for the all important hour!
We've also had a group of 9+ long tailed tits repeatedly descend upon the suet balls recently, hoping they stick around for the weekend!

I remember feeding back about 20 years ago. Another year, and common gull is on the publicity. No other gull species, so another year where there are artificially inflated common gull sightings. More likely gull species continue to be under counted.

You would indeed be lucky to spot some of those in a garden! I can understand why these posters are being pushed, but I think the species contained needs rethinking, to keep results as accurate as poss.

I also think the redpoll needs to be better displayed. Good it’s on the same poster as linnet. But, people often confuse the two, and redpoll is far more likely in most (not all) people’s gardens in Winter than linnet.

the linnets dont hang out in the garden in January, only later, and the same with the green woodpecker. Did have 8 greenfinches this morning though!

We frequently see Yellow Hammers and Skylarks in particular countryside locations in our part of E Midlands, but not in gardens. Perhaps the Garden Birdwatch could be extended to countryside, similar to the British Butterfly Count?

Visited the Belmont estate outside Bristol of today. It’s a regenerative farm and wetland area & due to this style of farming, there’s been a huge increase in ant hills. In turn this has created perfect conditions for a population boom of green Woodpeckers. I was lucky enough to see & hear them.

The backyard here (south east Queensland Aus) has Rainbow Lorikeets, Magpies, Galahs, Masked Lapwings (nesting), Corellas, and a new addition this summer - a Duck Billed Cuckoo being fostered by a pair of frazzled Crows.

I reckon they too are more likely to be herring, black headed and LBBGs rather than common gulls.
