That's essentially the function of hashtags here. Most feeds will have the keywords in their bio/description somewhere. I know spec fic is #specfic, not sure about kid lit.

I think I got it. It seems like each feed has an admin who sets a list of keywords, hashtags or accounts that will appear in the feed. So if you use 'writing community' in your post, it will appear in the writing community feed and whoever follows that feed will see it.

The keyword for the kidlit feed is kidlit. This post of yours showed up in that feed. That's how I saw it when I wasn't following you. BTW, I am now. Welcome to Bsky!
