Once all peaceful methods have failed, it takes a special kind of despair to go risk your life trying to get rid of the oppressor, knowing you'll likely lose everything, even if you survive.
And a special kind of realism to think of rebuilding after that.
I just made an argument for Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, but the way leadership is sleepwalking through this, acting like it’s ok and we’ll have another chance…these people are detached from reality
There is hope, BlueSky... Everybody is so busy here working on things collaborating talking, spitballing ideas... No need to be in despair, you're not alone hun, we're All in This together....💙👣🫂
I admire so many places where democracy is younger and less taken for granted and I see the willingness to punish abuses of power. It gives me hope. And then I think back to the US and I want to make hemlock tea for my soul
And what pisses me off the most? We would get into the streets. We did! We can! But no one is asking it of us, and not a single person in power is showing that they’d back us up (or demand that we back them up). Just complacency and sleepwalking. I truly love this country and hate it here.
There's pent-up demand in the US right now. No constitutional amendments have cleared Congress in 52 years, despite there being several likely candidates with broad consensus.
The apparent complacency is IMO manufactured and will evaporate quickly with the right spark.
I don’t have any evidence, but I feel there is an intuitive argument to support the idea that some number of potential genuine leaders have been siphoned off into the influencer sphere. The “follower” language definitely doesn’t discourage the idea that popular accounts are “leading” something…
I am with you, and there are many. Try not to listen to the media on TV. They have an agenda, and it will only bring you down. There are many working to preserve our Constitution (Adam Kinzinger, Jamie Raskin and our VP). These are people you can trust to protect our Democracy.
I really appreciate you talking about this stuff. I'm always telling my wife that I'm relentlessly infuriated (always think of James Baldwin here) and negative about our society, yet I'm full of gratitude and inspired by the smallest things. Interesting balance for sure
I agree. It’s frustrating. So many of us are just waiting for the green light, for the “plan” and….nada. I decided to put my energy into volunteering for the ACLU. I know they’re going to need a lot of help these next 4 years.
Why will no one lead? That's a real question I am asking myself. Gavin Newsom is making noises, but he leads what is essentially a small country, so he probably feels safer than most.
I feel as though so many of us are waiting for leaders to point where to go and what to do, and there's silence from almost all of them. I'm very disappointed, and scared for that matter.
Oh, I live here and I do not like him one bit. I resent that he's almost the only one speaking up and he's doing it for compromised reasons (his future political aspirations)
We were in the streets, just check what happened to us in Minneapolis. People in power didn’t & won’t back us up-that’s how they’ve either accumulated their wealth, or enhanced it.
Until we get $ out of politics, we’re going to continue to have people in power that care nothing about ideals-only $
@hcrichardson.bsky.social was on today talking about the absolute missed opportunity of re-enshrining voting rights in early 2021, and I remember loudly cursing the names of Manchin & Sinema. I'd so been hoping another opportunity would come before it was too late.
Me too. I was so angry that they just shrugged and let that go. I think people aren't pouring into the streets because it doesn't change anything. People do care.
System has ALWAYS been broken, the internet brought it to the forefront.
Hope you can find is we are effing pissed (yes some look to trump to fix, no i will never capitalize his name again) & when the 98% get on the same page, which we mostly will soon, the internet will perpetuate real change.
Not just the system but all systems. Healthcare. Education. Social Security. Journalism. Congress. Capitalism. Finance. Housing. Wages. Civil rights. The Supreme Court. And much, much too soon, the Executive Branch. There’s a lot of lip service to fighting, but not much in the way of action.
There's nothing worth fighting to save, ma. It's time to burn our fields and build something new, something that works. No part of this current mess is worth saving, in fact it's preventing growth to even try. But it's nothing to fear or be sad about
Ya, really. There are barely any parts of the system that work to the benefit of the people at all, and that small handful of things can be incorporated in a new better system without the losing battle of digging thru the trash trying to preserve any of this
Man, I feel this. Despair has definitely made itself known to me.
But... people are fighting. ACLU, A4TE, immigrants groups, teenagers who show up being exactly themselves. Some folks need a break for a few months and that's great. But the work isn't stopping. We're here.
You know, I think people are. I really do. People like Jamie Raskin and co. Don’t despair yet. I just think we don’t don’t get to see all their hard work that’s all.

I understand the despair, but I promise there are still people fighting for what is right and good. The challenge is it takes much less time to blow something up than it does to repair it. Keep doing what you can, as will I, and you'll find others who are also on the repair team. Be brave Hold on

Make good trouble😉

I feel like the cost is usually paid in blood by people who have to physically fight against the army shutting down the government.
