The Times report says Trump has explicitly told Trudeau he doesn't think the border treaty is valid, and Lutnick has told Canadian officials the US is considering withdrawing from agreements covering the Great Lakes, and ending military and intelligence cooperation between the two countries.

Agreed and it seems we need to move really really quickly to essentially be like the US is our Russia and we are Poland/ukraine/finland etc. A permanent defensive change

We can’t move fast enough to guarantee that we would repel an invasion, but as it stands we can mount a defence that would be at least as robust as Ukraine vs Russia, and we need the US to understand that. Russia invaded because they didn’t believe Ukraine would fight.
