Those same voters generally do not have well-defined or coherent ideological commitments, and their knowledge of current events (and how things work generally) is often poor. I have no doubt they told you they would have supported Sanders, but little reason to believe they actually would have.
No "Maybe X could have won" take - particulary one that claims to be accompanied by empirical or anecdotal evidence - can be admitted for consideration unless it adds the disclaimer that "X has never faced the direct onslaught of the right-wing propaganda machine for a full campaign cycle."
Apparently any lady running for President. I remember I saw some FB “friend” post about “that woman” back in 2016. Saw similar derision about Harris as VP in 2020.
Yeah, it's got to come out, even if in private internal discussions, that a massive segment of this country is reflexively hostile to women who seek higher office.
So, let's keep it simple. Dem party members voted for Sanders in 2016 and the in-crowd over rode the vote. Dem party members voted for Biden in 2024 and the in-crowd over rode the vote.
many republicans in every election ive been alive for say they would've voted for the runner-up in the previous dem primary because they think it makes them look more open-minded and that their hatred of the actual candidate is inspired by that candidates characteristics rather than by partisanship
e.g. "oh i cant vote for obama but i really like hillary clinton and would've voted for her if she had won the nomination" that made her briefly the most popular politician in the country in 2009. that didn't hold up for her being the actual candidate!
they're not the only ones who do this of course! dems talking up how normal nikki haley was this year or saying how good george w bush (?!) was in comparison to trump are doing the same lie
I'll give them this--there is a chance Trump screws things up so badly there is indeed a seismic change in American politics, in one direction or another. Which apparently is what a lot of those folks want.
Bernie Sanders would have never won. FFS. He lost by millions both times- threatened to primary Obama & went home to pout after getting his ass kicked by Hillary. He’s a petulant man that has accomplished little while being in legislative office for decades. Spare me your bullshit.
In OCTOBER. AFTER he Ed g home and finished his damn book! Not in July after he lost. So he pouted.. grifted some more money and came to camp3 weeks before the election. Ya. That’s EXACTLY what I mean
Oh, I don't think he got his ass kicked at all by Her. It was her Establishment that made damn sure he didn't get nominated. Remember all the states that voted for him in the primary? Then, come the Dem Conven, he was out
During the 2016 primary most polls showed Hillary leading the Donald by the same dicey narrow margin she'd have in November, and Bernie with a wider, safer lead.
Polls may not be everything, but they aren't nothing either! Where's your countervailing evidence?
When it was going to be a Biden vs Trump rematch I heard a lot of people say they would vote for literally anyone else if there was an option. Then when it was Harris vs Trump they picked Trump.
I’m not sure people are good at predicting their own hypothetical behavior.
why couldn’t Kamala be more like Bernie 😬 You know, possess a white 🍆 and stuff - thanks for finally translating your thread. White working class became the price of 🥚🥚 this election. You polster guys still didn’t figure out the code words 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
2. To the extent it is true, it is yet another repudiation of policy-based politics. If you actually liked Bernie for policies, you would never vote Trump.
So the only thing we can take from this is that presentation trumps policy.
Yep… and I don’t think it’s really policy either, just a vibes thing. For example sanders and Warren are very similar policy wise, but Warren is viewed as way more as an elitist than Bernie
We also love populists. The problem is we keep electing the bad ones. We need more good ones to run, but Establishment Ds don’t seem to like, you know, winning.
I meant the kinds of people who seem to connect with the electorate. Some connect by lying (bad ones), and some connect by speaking truth to power, even to their own party (these are good ones). There are other issues too, but my point is “the good guys” need even more scrappy fighters on our side

Validating my theory that most White GenXers have no intention of voting for a woman for president, ever.
Because I can only think of one and it is not making me happy
Ya right. Hillary didn’t drag it out and not campaign for 3 months.. and no.. a lot of his cult voted third party. FFS.. we remember!
