I see the US left as not being left at all, but center-right, and definitely to the right of the German left, which is what this graphic shows. Even the German right supports all the things that are typical of social democracy, while the US left can barely even mention those things out loud.

I'm not sure what you're referring to with "social policy." The left in the US advocate less restrictions on abortion than most of Europe, extraordinary grace towards migrants and diversity relative to Europe, at least as much towards gay and trans people, etc.
