I understand using algorithms for some things. I do get it. But there was definitely a rude awakening for me when I realized people I *knew* actually used the twitter algorithmic timeline. A big "wait, really???" moment for my old ass.

I don't want to be force-fed what GOOGLE thinks I want to (Or if I may put on my tinfoil hat for a second, what THEY want me to) watch. I also use about a billion browser addons that obfuscate what I look at online.
You can either turn the whole thing off or deselect specific things like watch or search history
I found the "For You" timeline useful after being very aggressive with blocking. Block all ads, block right-wingers, block meme accounts, block leftists who do nothing but spend all day arguing with right-wingers, etc /1
But, yeah, I had to fight what Twitter wanted the algo to be. /2
In a user-first world, all of the algorithm parameters would have been transparent and tweakable, instead of something I had to "trick". /3 fin
