I think some people donβt come over from Twitter because 50% plus of their social media personality is, mocking, complaining or being the victim of what arseholes post & there just isnβt enough here for themπ€·π»ββοΈ

Yes, sometimes it's habit forming from all the abuse & arseholery there, understandable and often hard to break, other times it's how people choose to garner attention, online and IRL.
I'm happy if the latter stay there.
I haven't posted on Twitter recently (account dormant) but with ~3 times more followers there than here, I'd expect it to be higher.
I don't expect high engagement/followers in first few weeks/months of being on a new SM platform - I didn't expect that when I first joined twitter, always... 1/2
I'm sure the same person had little interaction in first few weeks/months on Twitter too.
People joining and expecting exactly-the-same-as-Twitter within days, no effort required in engaging with others, building new networks, friends, family... baffle me too.
Yes, agree.
In defence of some, been hard not to be dragged down over last couple of years with algorithm bombarding you & the trolls, trolling growing exponentially due to Elmo.
Some have always been that way though & it's often about them, rarely topics that affect anyone else.
Leave them to it.
My account still exists but is dormant, no intention to delete it any time soon for various reasons.
We're not contributing to 'active users' which is all that really counts, those paying to be there and eyeballs on adverts all earning money for Musk, so I wouldn't worry too much.ππ
Yep, some of it is habit forming and not noticed by individual over last few years, like the frog in a pot of slowly boiled water, others are like this regardless.
I'm happy if the latter stay there.
The internet is largely built on and relies on negative emotions, sadly. Some people just go to it to pick fights, join fights, or to kick eachother while they're all down.
100% this. m
Many who design algorithms, know and encourage this to manipulate for increased engagement, purposefully putting posts into others feeds they know will enrage them.
Here I can better curate my feed, talk about what I want, good, bad or indifferent, with those I want.
That's something I liked about this platform. Took me a while to find out but with stuff you don't like, you can just... turn it off. And the last social media I used was Google+ so this was a revelation.
Yep, I was lucky that on Twitter I'd been using Lists & muting words/hashtags for years, & more heavily so since Elon took over, so was moderately comfortable with a number of ways to better curate feeds here.
Now I've also got access back to decent moderation on abuse/trolling etc much better.
Iβve kept my account just to check on a couple of friends who probably canβt be bothered moving but not sure how long as I really hate any connection to the owner

How anyone could hang out in that cesspit, Iβll never know.
I'm happy if the latter stay there.
But it really doesnβt matter to me.
It is great to see many good faces here β¦ and great not to see many hear as well.
This is a better platform.

The benefits here currently far outweigh any negatives, mental health wise, ethically & more, feel much better.
Agree with all you'e saidπ... 2/2
It will scale β¦ it just has less users than Twitter.
Twitter has 200 million daily active users.
This platform only has 25 million accounts so far. It will grow.
All the big names are here anyway EBK.
You and I are here Eric... that's what you meant by 'big names' rightπ
Have a great day ππ
My response was just a "throw-away" response.
Happy 2025 π
It's not.
