I had a refrain I used to say every time we approached a cash register/junk micro-targeted to small people zone: "Do not be swayed by the marketing directed at you by the man." They are now 16, 20, 24, and 30. They still say it to themselves. Also: no fucking advertising on their UNDERWEAR.

No books about TV characters, no toys that are marketing, no logos on clothing, bedding, pillows, etc. We are very alike in this matter. I kept books in every room, including the bathroom (art books LOL). Reference books for idle curiosity and sharing at the kitchen table.
