It’s a family tradition—supposedly Irish?—that when someone dies, we leave a candle burning overnight, so that the light will help the soul find its way to heaven. This has caused friction with my non-Irish and profoundly non-superstitious wife, who alleges that I am “going ti burn the house down.”
