I don’t understand this at all. I’m a family lawyer in a jurisdiction where children’s right’s are treated as paramount by the courts. Where a matter involves a child, the best interests test trumps all other legal considerations. But I don’t know anyone who links that with pedophilia apology.

I do not see the right ever advocating for children's rights. The conservative parent's rights movement was formed in 1970s to push back on the children's right movement - esp from Int'l Year of the Child in 1979. They saw it as broader opposition to human rights movement.

If you read the original curriculum parents rights people objected to- it taught kids their feelings were important and their bodies were their own and the American religious right flipped out.
