Hagan Scotten's letter is a stellar example of "how lawyers say fuck your face."
BTW, we're not up to 7 resignations, which is 5 more than the Saturday Night Massacre and Public Integrity Justice unit was put in a room & given an hour to decide who's signing the motion.
Attorneys are supposed to be bound by ethical rules so Trump will have a harder time finding good attorneys, especially career prosecutors, that are willing to do the things his administration will ask of them. There are certainly unethical attorneys out there so I guess their job prospects are good
We've hit the point in the show where the career working adults have been told to violate the law and chose to resign instead. Why? Because those people have probably been hired, same day, by any number of huge dollar law firms. These are the people that are just doing their jobs. Normal people.
Kathy Hochul could fire Adams right now, spare NYC the embarrassment and mess and criminality it will be put through by Adams still being in office, and she could give Trump a huge “Fuck you” at the same time. Why isn’t she doing this?
Firing Adams would not just help NYC, but all of NY and the US because it would destroy the object of the criminal conspiracy that Bove, Bondi, and Trump are engaged in with Adams and his attorney Spiro.
As Sassoon noted in her letter, an actual dismissal would require "leave of the court". After all this, I doubt the Court would accept the dismissal. Nota bene: the Courts are getting mightily pissed.
Danielle Sassoon, the Manhattan U.S. Attorney who was the first to resign today, once clerked for... wait for it... SCOUTS Justice Scalia. (& is a contributor to the Federalist Society)
ie: The folks deciding they're being given illegal orders are not lefties of any kind
Gov. Hochul's refusal to remove Mayor Adams for his corruption not only imperils city governance and rule of law but also contributes to the crisis underway at the Attorney's General Office, SDNY.
I dont understand the point of resigning over forcing them to fire you. Can someone explain? The tradition of resigning in protest only works if there’s sone establishment norm being violated by he act. And we’re way past that point.
definitely a badass. I just don’t understand, given their expressed goals, how resigning and voluntarily vacating the position is a net positive. They -want- ppl to self-vacate roles bc it’d be more difficult for Yam Tits to fire them for cause
They did not want her to self vacate. They didn’t want the prosecutors in dc to self vacate. They wanted them to “just follow orders”. She would’ve been fired for this.
Her letter to bondi is public&further exposes the illegality of the deal.
I wish she had instead both refused to resign *and* refused to carry out the order and keep showing up on the job until DOJ fired her and hauled her out of the building.
It's still worth someone publicly standing up and saying, "No," even if they ultimately resign. Small instances of courage are better than none at all.
*cough* Republican Senators *cough*
There's still quite a few honorable brave souls that will not bow down to Trump and his minions! Evil bastards in that white house right now. I have not been ashamed of our leaders since Nixon! I know all politicians have their failing character but that Orange Musolinni wins first place!
Each Associate Justice gets four clerks a term. Scalia would, fairly reliably, choose for one of his four a highly qualified person whose viewpoints were divergent from his, as a "counter-clerk". He said in an interview once that this was done "to make sure I don't make mistakes."
And i hated him for it sometimes. For instance he didn't agree with children being free from cross-exam on abuse cases. "it says in the text, right to face accuser!" that kind of thing.
Textualist originalism was almost always a pretext for conservatism and when adherence to originalism led to a result that he didn't like, he willingly threw it aside. But that was a conceit. He at least believed in limited government and the needs for checks and balances.
Scalia and RBG were close friends. They both strongly agreed that SCOTUS should be nonpartisan. If you read the Bush vs Gore opinion, I think it makes sense, but I ain't no lawyer.

As Gen Milley says "we don't take an oath to a wannabe dictator".

⌛The lawyers and the courts can only prop up the dam holding back fascism so much longer...💀

No way he has this job otherwise.
Also, get him together with Joseph Cuffari and Steven D'Antuono and you've got the makings of a Goodfellas remake.

Minimally, it was right for HER & rule of law.

Hey chuck. This is how you not act like a coward. Maybe take notes
This current Court is a farce.
