I'm British and transgender and I was going to come over to the west coast in the spring. But now? I'd have to be crazy. While I think things might be OK once I was through the airport, I'm not risking entering the country at this point. It's pretty sad that America has come to this.

It's border control at the airport that is most worrying to be honest. I was going to stay with a friend, not a hotel, but even so I feel anything could happen at any point moving forward. Like, the situation could take a turn for the worse while I was in the country, even if I got in OK.

A punk band from the UK was detained even though their manager had all the proper paperwork and entry visas. They were grilled about their political views and expelled after hours of detention. UK just issued a travel advisory too

It has always been risky to travel to the US as you could be refused entry for trivial misunderstandings, looking too "Muslim" or whatever. We've always been warned against that. The detainments are new, though.

It's just the vibe and the buildings. Most Europeans I know who have visited the States have been to New York City or Chicago or Las Vegas, LA or San Fransisco. Failing that if they've kids it's Florida and Disneyland and places like that.

I deleted telegram, bsky, spotify, and signed out of youtube while filling my search and video history with centralist / right wing content.

And I did this a week in advance. Just practice good opsec.

There have been 3 separate incidents of German citizens who were detained. One man, who is engaged to a US citizen was held for 2 weeks, some of that time in chains.

I would dare add, seeing how one can be 'disappeared' by an "oopsie, too late", don't go there even if you ARE American and are currently overseas.
