An Off Peak Return from Manchester to London is now £114. If you want to travel in peak it's £386.
That's insane.
That's insane.

(laughs at the memory of the time work put on a coach from Macc to London for a do and wildly underestimated how bad the traffic would be)
Turns out the infrastructure for both modes is crumbling a bit!
But if we want to encourage economy growth between cities/north-south it should be as cheap as possible, and looking to other countries it is NOT as cheap as possible…
Now it's £59, the cost isn't justified
Manchester Picc to Crewe - £17.30 off peak day return
Crewe - Euston via West Mids Railway - £55.10 off peak return (£43.70 super off peak return)
With Avanti you’re paying off the UK national debt, Grand Central just happy for a few quid.
I frequently pay under £35 for two advance singles on Northern + LNER from Skipton.
That's not comparable to flexible tickets
I notice a non flexible fair is around 43 quid, that is the price any fair should be.
We have no Off-peak fares any more on LNER. If there's no Advance fares left, it's £402 return, even outside peak times.
(I don’t know what would happen if everyone started doing this.)
