I think what we’re kind of learning, and it would be admirable in a way if it didn’t annoy the shit out of me, is that Jed Hoyer gives exactly ZERO shits about external pressure. He doesn’t care one iota about being on the hot seat. He’s going to execute his plan no matter what.

I think we may be confusing being committed to his plan, with him actually not exciting his plan more effectively. I would be more on board with this line of thinking if they had the # 1 farm system or a clear cut top 3 prospect. I lend more to him not doing his job as well as he had wanted to.

I agree it has been mixed. His probably biggest issue has been his inability to either sign, draft, or trade for a true superstar. He has done well accumulating good but not great players imo.

And I hope he loses his job for it. The farm system is great. But I want the Cubs to be a playoff contender. They are a big market team that makes moves like a small market team. The fact that this team hasn’t been in the playoffs and since 2020 and hasn’t seen an NLDS game since 2018 is pathetic.

I really don't see him trading Hoerner or Belli unless there is a huge return that helps them now. He is very strategic with the moves and does a decent job of maximizing the returns.

The most angering part is he doesn't reveal much and seems like he doesn't do anything when he talks with media.

Tom has said that Jed has the resources if needed to put the team over the top once they are in a position to win. A few have interpreted this to mean that Jed is not spending all that is available in his budget. Do you subscribe to the theory that Jed is leaving money on the table every year?

There's having plan and sticking to it, but I worry he's so rigid in his thinking that it's hindering them. Like in free agency, sometimes you have to overspend to get your guy, but the Cubs seem totally averse to not "winning" every signing.

And, in Jed's defense, most of the major trades in the last four years(Darvish, Rizzo, Baez) have yielded a prospect who ranges from All Star caliber potential to Matt Shaw. He has gotten really good returns.

My concern is Jed not capitalizing on the amount of top prospects we have now, and they start losing value. Not a lot of room on the big league roster for them. But if Jed won’t move any of them…
