Love this, but also have to say that the editors should take out requests by a reviewer for citations to their work unless the reviewer is THE capacity on the topic. I have done this in the past, and I informed the reviewers that I shared the review without these requests;
That is a thing of petty beauty! (I've had reviewers out themselves before by suggesting their own work, but I've never gone to the extent of noting it in acknowledgements)
A similar story: I was asked to write a short account of a professional meeting. The editor sent it back saying there had to be references. References? For an account of a meeting? Then it dawned on me, I looked up the editor's work, cited him, and the brief was accepted.
With behavior like this, one can just savage a paper during review, but work in a request to cite a bunch of the Genc-equivalent and effectively cover their tracks.
I recently was R2 for a ms where R1 suggested a ton of his own papers, and acknowledged it. I gotta admit it takes balls. (And a certain lack of self-awareness)
